One Year

Ohmygoodness! I'm so excited! And just so very blessed! My love & I are off for the weekend to celebrate one year of wedded bliss {it really has been a great year }! :D Shane was completely in charge! & surprised me with a long weekend to Savannah, GA at this beautiful bed & breakfast, The Azalea Inn & Gardens.

Oh, & PS... I'm excited about the food! I've been careful for the past 3 weeks {and lost 5 lbs, woot woot} but I'm taking a little break this weekend {can you gain 5 lbs in one weekend... probably}!

So here's the thing with me and kids. I like kids ok... I mean, they're alright for about 10 mins and then it's time to give them back to their mommy and daddy. You know how some girls just grow up drawn to babies and knowing how to hold them and all that... that's not me. I know I'll feel different when I have babies of my own (and I'll love them like no other!) but I don't have babies yet. None of my siblings even have babies yet. And although many of my close friends and cousins have babies its still not the same. So, I didn't want ANY at my wedding originally. Yep, NONE. I just felt that I'd rather have someone I'd really want taking up that seat rather than some little kid that wouldn't appreciate my day anyway. But, my no kids request didn't really fly with my family, especially my mom. So we had some kids there. And I have to say, we do have VERY cute kids in my family. Gives me hope that in a couple years I'll pop out a cute one :D

Eat, Drink, and be Married!

I loved having my wedding and reception at the home where I'd grown up. LOVED IT! I loved having the ceremony on the edge of the woods where I'd spent hours building forts with my siblings, carved my name in a large tree, and caught fireflies on warm summer evenings. I have so many wonderful memories of that place and I'm so thankful I could start a new chapter of my life at the place that I hold so dear.





I loved having the reception under the open sky as the sun was setting and then seeing the twinkling of white lights and candles. I wasn't sure how I'd be feeling having all eyes on me and having to say hello to everyone during the reception because I don't love being the center of attention. But I ended up loving every moment of it! I loved the relaxing atmosphere of the night, I loved our cheese and fruit table, I loved our simple menu of salad and lasagne, loved our band!

There is something sacred to me about the exchanging of rings. I love the symbolism rings hold, what they represent: I place this ring on your finger because I want the world to know you belong by my side for as long as we both shall live. You are mine, I am yours. We are each others. When I first got engaged I was constantly looking down at my ring, constantly fiddling with it. I loved the feeling that I had been "taken"... I was "off the market" ...let the world know. And I love looking down now at my husband's strong hand and seeing that ring on his finger... he is taken, he is mine forever... let the world know.

One of the only request my guy had was he wanted to be as comfortable as possible. He gets hot SUPER fast in the heat and so we went for a cool and casual look with the vest and ties, very appropriate for an outdoor wedding. I LOVED their ties! We found them at Southern Proper which had a great selection to chose from. The black-eye-peas seem to add a nice southern flare and my mom ended up using black -eye-peas in the table arrangements too. And my grandma topped their look off with crisp, white hankies. They looked so handsome!

the bride loves floral, part 2

As I said before I like floral. I new I didn't want my girls wearing the solid typical bridesmaid dress. I ended up looking everywhere for fabric and finally found what I was looking for! I hadn't planned on them wearing brown but when my sister saw this fabric I new it was what I wanted. I then had a friend of my moms make the dresses so they they turned out very inexpensive. And very cute! I even got one made for myself! :)
